The hospital’s maternity unit is supporting the Share the Dignity campaign as a collection point for donations of sanitary and personal care products during the month of August.
Nurse Naomi Gerhard urged the community to support this month’s Dignity Drive by making a donation of new and unopened sanitary and personal care items.
“Sadly, there are many women who do not have access to sanitary items. This may be because the women are in financial crisis, are homeless, suffering domestic violence or are unemployed,” Ms Gerhard said.
Share the Dignity conducts Dignity Drives twice a year in April and August, collecting sanitary pads, tampons and incontinence underwear at community collection points.
Thousands of products are distributed to Share the Dignity partner charities across the country to assist women in need.
“Our maternity unit is very pleased to be able to support this campaign and we welcome more donations. We are hoping the donations restore the dignity many of us take for granted,” Ms Gerhard said.
