State emergency services have issued a severe weather warning as “vigorous” winds are set to develop in south east NSW from late Tuesday, August 14.

Locations said to be affected are: Bowral, Wollongong, Nowra, Thredbo Top Station, Mount Perisher, Charlotte Pass, Mount Ginini and Katoomba.
SES Wingecarribee Unit advised that damaging winds with peak gusts in excess of 90km per hour were possible throughout Wednesday, but are expected to ease by Thursday morning.
“A ridge of high pressure extends across the north of the state whilst a cold front to the west of the Bight is slowly moving east. This cold front is expected clip the south during Wednesday and Thursday, generating vigorous west to northwesterly winds across the southeast,” the statement read.
The National Parks Service of NSW has recommended people to postpone travelling through back country as blizzard conditions are expected in alpine areas throughout Wednesday.
The NSW State Emergency Service advises that people should:
• Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
• Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
• Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
• Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid on 131 388, or Endeavour Energy on 131 003 or Essential Energy on 132 080, as shown on your power bill.
