Councillors voted to put the proposed amendments out on public exhibition at the August 8 council meeting.
One of the key changes of the proposed amendment is to remove Planning Proposals and Voluntary Planning Agreement notifications that are covered under other policies.
Another change involves discontinuing notification of dwelling house applications within new residential release area estates.
Council’s Deputy General Manager, Corporate, Strategy and Development Services, Mark Pepping said it was hoped the changes would improve the processing of development applications.
“In focussing our notification process and community engagement activities, council will be able to expedite the processing of low-impact development applications (DAs) and provide quicker turnaround for customers,” he said.
Mr Pepping said council staff assessed assessed hundreds of DAs each month and as part of the process, in certain circumstances, were required to notify surrounding residents and businesses.
“The major aim of these proposed administrative changes is to re-look at who and how we notify residents when processing these development applications,” he said.
“We have also had to respond to changes in the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 as a result of changes introduced on March 1 this year”.
