The tea at Blooms The Chemist, Mittagong, Didn’t even need to change out of the pyjamas when they headed to work on August 9.

The Blooms’ staff opted for the unusual work wear in support of National Pyjama Day which raises money for children in foster care.

National Pyjama Day is run Australia throughout July and August. 

There are more than 50,000 children in Australia who are in foster care and they are recognised by The Pyjama Foundation as having the lowest education outcomes in the country.

The foundation raises money nationwide to provide those children in care with better life opportunities.

Of those 50,000 children, 92 per cent have a below average reading level by the age of seven and 35 per cent end up in the juvenile justice system.

The 'Love of Learning' program was created by the National Pyjama Foundation to address this issue. 

The program recruits volunteers known as 'Pyjama Angels' who are trained, screened and then matched with a foster child who they spend time with once a week.

They focus on the learning-based activities with the children in care is to encourage them to reach their life potential.

To raise money for the foundation, the staff at Blooms ran a bake sale in-store on August 9. 

Homemade cupcakes, brownies, slices and healthier and gluten free treats helped to raise more than $300 for the foundation.

Staff said they had participated in fundraisers before and always loved dressing up to support a cause.

The money raised goes toward the 'Love of Learning' program to help provide foster children with learning opportunities, healthy relationships and improved success and confidence.
