Get up-to-date with JP training day

Justices of the Peace will have the chance to hone their skills at a training day planned for September.

And helping them to better understand the JP role will be president and director of JP Education NSW Justices Association and author of the training manual for JPs, Dr John Brodie JP PhD.

The Southern Highlands Branch of the NSW Justice Association will present the annual Highlands JP Training Day at the Mittagong RSL Club on September 6.

Organisers said the 2017 training day, which attracted 50 JPs eager to brush up on their knowledge, proved a huge succes under the direction of Dr Brodie.

They said they received “tremendous feedback” regarding Dr Brodie’s expertise and professional presentation.

Needless-to-say he has been called back for this year’s event which will be broken into two broad sessions.

The session topics will include:

  • The three Cs being conflict of interest, code of conduct and duty of care
  • Structure of affidavits, working through an affidavit required for divorce

Southern Highlands branch president Lyn Collingridge  said the annual training day was important to ensure that all JPs kept pace with current standards.

She said it was a directive from the attorney general that JPs maintained and enhanced their knowledge and skills to deliver professional service to clients and the community.

“That way we stay relevant and up-to-date,” she said.

Whether you provide JP services in the Southern Highlands on any one of the community desks across the region or at your workplace the JP Refreshing Training Day is invaluable.

All interested JPs are welcome to attend the training sessions to become better aware of the modern day requirements of the role.

The training day will be held at the Mittagong RSL Club on the Old Hume Highway, Mittagong.

Registration is from 1pm with training beginning at 1.30pm and wrapping up at about 4.30pm.

A fee of $15 will be charged to non-members of the Southern Highlands Branch of the JP Association of NSW. Afternoon tea will be provided.

RSVPs are required by September 4. These can be made by contacting Robert Baker JP  at teejay_12@bigpond.com or 0408 002 790; or Jack Reid JP at jack.john@ozemail.com.au of 0418 215 379.
