The Bridge Assessment Project began in June, and the project will continue into 2019 with approximately 50 council maintained bridges being evaluated during this period.

As part of the $416,000 program, all council bridges will be critically assessed and checked for structural integrity, durability and safety.

Assessments will include a comprehensive condition inspection of every bridge’s critical components.

Inspections will also include stringent load assessment reviews with warning signage updated where necessary.

In addition to auditing and valuation purposes, the assessments are designed to help better plan and budget for future renewal and replacement programs.

The review program is being undertaken by multi-specialist engineering and environment consultancy contractors Pitt and Sherry.

Funding for the Bridge Assessment Project was secured via the Restart NSW Fixing Country Roads program.

Member for Wollondilly Jai Rowell said the NSW Government was proud to have wholly funded the bridge assessment project for the Wingecarribee Shire.

“We are committed to ensuring the freight industry and other road users can access a reliable and efficient road network,” Mr Rowell said.

“Bridge assessments like this one allow for the identification of heavy vehicle routes and the prioritisation of bridge works, as well as ensure the safety of our roads for all travelling vehicles.”
