Community choir, the Gentle Ladies Amateur Singers (GLAMS) celebrated a special milestone.
Members of the choir gathered together over an afternoon tea to celebrate the GLAMS’ 10th anniversary.
The group formed in January, 2008 while friends Jenny Suttie and Rhonda Calcott enjoyed a lunch with a larger group of friends.
After a few drinks and a singalong, Jenny said it seemed like a “jolly good idea” to start a choir.
Today, 10 years later, the choir is stronger than ever.
Originally, the singers’ aim was to not only sing for pleasure, but with the intention of developing their skills to provide enjoyment for others.
This was achieved through involvement in community events and contributing to the welfare of the choir’s senior citizens.
The GLAMS’ repertoire, sung mostly in two or three-part harmonies, is varied and includes traditional, musical theatre and gospel styles.
Members meet fortnightly at Scott Hall, Harbison Care, Burradoo to rehearse and prepare for performances.
In return, the GLAMS perform for the residents at both Burradoo and Moss Vale facilities throughout the year.
Members of the group continue to enjoy their singing and hope to continue to bring pleasure to others.
Throughout the year, they perform at nursing homes and various community events such as Seniors Day, Biggest Morning Tea and International Women’s Day breakfast.
Call Jenny Suttie on 0414 613 877 if you are interested in joining the choir.
