The public meeting, which was organised by the Department of Planning and Environment, was postponed to a later date due to a lack of space for residents at Sutton Forest Hall.
Save Our Sands Alliance group member Bernadette Lawlor said the crowd was up in arms about not being able to sit in on the meeting.
“There was angst and uproar from the crowd at being shut out of this important meeting, unable to hear or see. It was a shambles,” Ms Lawlor said.
The Department of Planning and Environment discussed options with the audience, including continuing with the meeting or postponing it.
In the end it was decided that it was best to postpone the meeting.
Ms Lawlor said postponing the meeting gave more residents the opportunity to hear details and have their say on the proposed sand mine.
“It was a very democratic solution, which I’m happy about,” she said.
“I think it’s a much better option that everyone will have a chance to have their voice heard.”
The Department of Planning and Environment has not yet set a date for the postponed public meeting.
