The order was a resolution of council in November 2017, with the order set to expire on July 19. After the decision of council in November, a development application was lodged for a seniors living development. The site includes a chapel, convent and college buildings and the sports pavilion/amenities block. The application will be determined by the joint regional planning panel. While council's heritage advisor recommended some small modifications to effect a better heritage outcome, the proposal represented a good outcome for the site.
The advisor said it wasn’t necessary to heritage list the site after the order lapsed at this time. The motion was carried after five councillors were in favour. Councillors Graham McLaughlin, Larry Whipper and Peter Nelson voted against the motion based on the potential heritage factor.
