This is the latest of more than $1.3 million passed on to community groups during the organisation’s 42 year history.
The latest disbursement on $71,713.80 has been made possible following the success of this year’s Bundanoon is Brigadoon celebration on April 7.
The Bundanoon Highland Gathering Committee has acknowledged the effort and commitment from the large number of volunteers who gave countless hours of tireless labour to assist in making Brigadoon 2018 such an outstanding success.
The committee members have described the disbursements as the result of efforts “by the Community for the Community” .
The committee ensures that it recognises this commitment by disbursing the profits raised on the day to local charity and volunteer groups.
The money is distributed on a proportional basis to each organisation.
It highlights Brigadoon as a significant opportunity for the local community to fundraise for their own specific groups by having a stall site or volunteering their services.
Among the amounts disbursed are:
- Youth Groups $13,677.30
- Local Schools $3472
- Community Groups $4175.50
- Charities $4132
- Fire Service $15,507
- Pipe Bands $16,250
- Performers $14,500
The committee members said that as a volunteer committee they were “extremely proud of our efforts in supporting the local community.”
The committee members also extended gratitude to the local businesses and personalities from the Southern Highlands who supported and sponsored Brigadoon in 2018.
They said it was only through the generosity of people and organisations like this that “Brigadoon” can achieve its goals, maintain the already evident enthusiasm in such a wonderful cultural showpiece, and continue to promote the Southern Highlands as a "Must See" tourism location.
They said that more to the point, such support made it possible to financially reward the community for their outstanding volunteering efforts.
Congratulations are extended to all the hard-working, dedicated members of the Brigadoon committee on their exceptional efforts and for once again producing an event recognised worldwide as the Premier Scottish Highland Gathering in Australia.
New members are now being sought for next years event, in particular children’s games event co-ordinators are needed. This is a job suited to a couple or two friends.
Also needed is a Bonnie Bairns co-ordinator, arena manager and general committe members to shadow various portfolios.
