The Wingecarribee unit has increased its volunteer numbers from about 40 people in 2017 to more than 100 people in 2018.
The increase is due to greater community awareness of the work of the SES, through social media campaigns and word of mouth.
Wingecarribee unit controller Warren Turner said a volunteer role at the SES offered variety, which kept people engaged.
“It’s definitely about job satisfaction. As a volunteer, rescues come in as they happen, not on a day-to-day basis,” Mr Turner said.
The SES welcomes men and women from a diverse range of backgrounds, including those who are interested in a career in the emergency services.
On average the Wingecarribee unit attends about two rescues a week, not including storm work.
Last year volunteers attended more than 112 rescues.
The SES Wingecarribee unit will be recruiting volunteers in July. Details will be made available in the coming weeks. Visit www.facebook.com/pg/NSWSESWingecarribee or ses.nsw.gov.au for more information.
