Moss Vale Hockey Club’s David Mackay was awarded Hockey NSW’s 2018 administrator of the year title.
Southern Highlands Hockey Incorporated president Paul Sabatier presented David with his prize on June 23.
Paul said David’s award was well deserved and he couldn’t think of a better person to give the honours to.
“The Southern Highlands hockey association nominated him in recognition of his contributions into the competition and facility,” Paul said.
“David campaigned for 15 years to get these hockey fields built and ever since, the hockey competitions have gone from strength to strength.”
The passionate hockey player has since campaigned for a second hockey field to be built next to the existing one.
It has been a successful campaign with Wollondilly MP Jai Rowell announcing a $380,000 grant in June.
This is the first year an award of its kind has been distributed by the organisation, making David’s name the only one on the plaque.
Paul said he was proud to hand the trophy over to David.
“This award is a great way to thank him for that and recognise the amount of hours put into the association,” he said.
David said he was surprised to have received the award and described it as a great honour.
“Nobody told me what was going on and I didn’t know I was nominated until Hockey NSW announced it at their presentation while I was overseas,” he said.
“I’d like to thank the association for their nomination and for singling me out from all the other volunteers for this special treatment.
“I’m very proud to have received this award.”
