Mittagong Lions smashed their local rivals 64-6 at home on Sunday afternoon.
The Lions scored two early tries before Moss Vale hit back through Charlie Machado.
But after that it went all Mittagong’s way and the Lions led 36-6 at the break.
Blake Jeffery bagged a hat-trick while Tim Townsend and Jye Frazer both got a double in the Lions dominant victory. Lions coach Dan Beardshaw said it was a result the boys deserved after plenty of hard work in the lead up to the match.
“It’s a credit to the boys they can keep focused throughout the whole 80 minutes. Our shape was good and we shared the work out really, really well. The whole team did really well,” he said.
“Jye Frazer and Blake Jeffery did well. They ran some really good lines in the first half and made some good breaks. But again they can’t take their opportunities if not for our front rowers Aaron Sweeney, PJ Thornton and Pat Brown really laying a platform. And our halves directed us round the park and kept us focused.”
Moss Vale team manager Elliot Esquilant said it was a disappointing result and a match he could take no positives from.
With the Dragons having played just one match in the past few weeks, Elliot said it made it difficult coming into the game and fitness continued to be an issue for Moss Vale this year.
“Throughout the year fitness has been our biggest detriment. We’re in a rebuilding phase at the club too. It’s the first year [in first grade] back for a long time,” he said
“Our defence was pretty ordinary. It’s always nice to be up for a local derby but I just don’t think we had the wood today. They [Mittagong] were up for a lot more than we were today.”
It was definitely Mittagong’s day as they won all four grades at home.
The Ladies League Tag got up over the Dragons 18-0, the 18s had a close 28-22 win also over Moss Vale while reserve grade defeated Appin 50-12
