The organisers of Pie Fest have confirmed that Fast Ed from Better Home & Gardens will be joining former NRL Eels and Kangaroo representative Nathan Hindmarsh at Pie Fest on Sunday, June 24 at Bong Bong Racecourse.
Fast Ed will be giving Anna Phillips from The Cook’s Cooking School a hand in the cooking demonstrations.
He will also be assisting the kid’s in the special children’s cooking classes, where they will not only make their own pie but also a special box to take it home in.
Fast Ed is also looking forward to cheering on Nathan Hindmarsh as he gives the pie eating competition a go at 11am, before he heads off to his State of Origin duties.
Nathan will attempt to beat the record set last year of two minutes and four seconds – the fastest time it took to eat a family sized meat pie.
Event manager Elizabeth Nichols said there was a full schedule of events over two days.
“These will not only include two pie eating comps, three cooking demonstrations and three children’s classes each day but also four pie throwing competitions for the children, free face painting and live music,” she said.
“There will be something happening every hour, including the introduction of the Pie Fest mascots, Penny Pie and Sammy Sauce.”
Last week Stones Patisserie won the NSW/ACT Best Pie competition for its ‘heads and tails’ pie.
In addition to this, there were 10 winners announced across a variety of categories.
All these pies will be on display in the pavilion throughout the weekend.
To allow Pie Fest visitors to get in on the voting action to name the ‘People’s Choice’ winner, each visitor will be given an orange token upon entry.
They can cast their vote by placing their token in their favourite baker’s box just inside the door of the pavilion.
All the bakers selling pies at Pie Fest will be available for voting so there will be many to choose from.
For those who need transport to the Bong Bong Racecourse, Meals on Wheels will be providing a shuttle service from Bowral Station.
Times will be 10am and 11.30am with returns at 1.30pm and 3pm.
A gold coin donation will be appreciated to help them cover costs.
Visit www.piefest.com.au for more information and a copy of the schedule.
You can also register for the pie eating competition via the website.
Children’s cooking classes are paid events and tickets can be purchased via www.thecookscookingschool.com.au.
Places are limited for both events.
Pie Fest will run from 10am to 3pm on June 23 and 24.
