Bowral Blacks player Ben Whyte was a part of the side.
Held over the long weekend at Nelson Bay, the Illawarrriors were down on numbers as a result of injuries to players in the week leading up to the competition.
After winning the Country Championships undefeated, Illawarra finished up with two wins out of five games and 11th overall at the state tournament. Heavy rain affected all the games with back up grounds having to be used instead of Salamander Bay sports complex.
The weather changed gameplay considerably with most teams relying on their forwards to hold onto the ball instead of getting it out to their fast wingers and risk dropping the ball in slippery conditions.
While representative Rugby is over for the year, Ben will now return to local competitions as captain for both Chevalier College’s 13s team and the Bowral Blacks 13s team.
