After qualifying seventh, the 15-year-old Year 10 Oxley College student improved to fifth in race one, a result he repeated in race two while also setting a the lap record.
Some well-judged setup adjustments to Mineeff’s CHE Racing Formula Ford enabled him to charge to the front of the field in race three, and he finished the weekend with another victory in race four.
While ostensibly a state-level round, the race meeting attracted a number of national competitors, including current Australian Formula Ford Championship leader Hunter McElrea, who were all keen to learn the new track before the national series heads there in August.
Mineeff was elated with the result, and paid tribute to his team, owned by the family of current Porsche Carrera Cup driver and 2015 FFord champ Cameron Hill.
“It was a really positive and encouraging weekend, especially the way we kept improving,” Mineeff said.
“Cameron is really good with the driver coaching, and my teammate Tom Sargent was going well too – we were able to compare data between the two cars, which allowed us both to learn from one another.
“It’s an exciting track to race on – the main straight is very long, which means there’s lots of slipstreaming and swapping positions.
“In race three, I passed three cars at once and in race four, I went from fourth to first on the very last lap. Some of the spectators were talking about how entertaining it was to watch. The facilities are amazing and I can’t wait to race there again in August, in front of the Supercars crowd.”
Mineeff now faces a long break before his next race meeting, round four of the Australian Formula Ford Championship at Melbourne’s Sandown Raceway, on July 20-22.
