Volunteer Coordinator, South Western Sydney Local Health District Palliative Care Service, Arlene Roache said volunteers would start the new hospital roles on June 27. “Palliative care volunteers already support patients in their homes within the community,’’ she said. “We are introducing the service to the hospital after staff and community members identified a need for volunteers to provide additional support for palliative care patients.’’
Ms Roache said more volunteers were welcome to join the program but needed to undertake a six-week training program to gain the skills needed. Two volunteers have now completed training. Details: Ms Roache on 8738 9755.
