A total 135 guests came together at Moss Vale Services Club to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Rotary Club of Moss Vale.
The club was formed in 1948 and has contributed to many causes in the Highlands community and those supported by Rotary International.
On hand to toast the success of the club were several special guests including Brian Whyte whose father was one of the original Rotarians in 1948, and Phil Crocker whose father was president in 1954-55.
Several MPs including Federal Member for Throsby Stephen Jones, and State Member for Goulburn Pru Goward, as well as Wingecarribee councillors Peter Nelson, Graeme McLaughlin, and past Rotarian Duncan Gair also joined in the evening of celebration. Representatives of other Highlands Rotary Club also attended.
It was noted during the evening that the Bowral Club had sponsored the Moss Vale Club in 1948.
In the true spirit of Rotary the evening was turned into a fundraising opportunity for ongoing projects supported by the organisation.
A raffle and ticket sales for the celebration helped to raise $5000 donated to the Queen Street Centre which is the home of Wingecarribee Adult Day Centre, Meals on Wheels and various other community services. Additional funds will be raised for the centre by the Rotary Club of Moss Vale through a Rotary Golf Day to be held on September 21.
The cutting of the cake was performed by three of the more mature Rotarians, past District Governor John Paddison, the 95-year-old Lofty York, and Geoff Knapman who joined Rotary in Moss Vale in 1984.
