Shonagh began hosting the gatherings to support her father who had prostate cancer and her mother who had skin cancer.
Her husband, Frank, who also had cancer passed away late last year.
Shonagh said she always looked forward to hosting the morning teas each year.
“It’s nice to have a small chit chat and catch up with good friends while raising money to make a difference,” Shonagh said.
“It doesn’t matter how big or small it is. It all counts.”
Frank and Shonagh were frequent users of the Cancer Council GAPS program.
This volunteer-run transport service ensures cancer patients in the Southern Highlands comfortably reach their treatment sessions in hospital.
Shonagh said this was very important to her husband.
“We don’t live near the hospital, so it really helped us out,” she said.
“It meant we could still live in the Highlands. Frank could come home to his garden every day and admire its beauty.”
“He was comfortable and it really made the difference.”
Shonagh has raised approximately $7000 for Cancer Council NSW through hosting her teas.
This year, she raised just over $500.
