The dream of taking out the district pennant for grade six come to a shuddering halt .
After leading their section all season the Bowral side faulted at the wrong end of the season.
The reality is that with one game to go their loss at Taralga on Saturday has dropped them to second spot on the ladder with Taralga now leading by five points.
Robin Staples, Bruce Clynes, Russell Knight and Kevin Stafford drew with Taralga 17-17.
After 11 ends Taralga held a 12-7 lead. The Bowral team then came back strong and on the 13th end hit the front 14-12. Both sides put in solid bowls and the score was locked on three occasions- 15-15 after 17 ends, 16-16 after 19 ends and 17-17 on the last end.
Don Coleman, Alistair McGhee, Nathan Boyers and David Coltman lost to Taralga 18-15.
Bowral led 15-14 with two ends to play before Taralga won the last two ends to come out and triumph by three shots.
Carl Spilker, Ken Handley, Russell Fahey and Paul Leverett lost to Taralga 22-10.
Taralga was always in control of this match leading 8-3 after eight ends.
And they celebrated victory by 12 shots.
Taralga won two rinks and one rink was a draw.
Taralga finished with 57 shots and 9.5 points to Bowral’s 42 shots and half a point.
In grade seven, Bowral lost to Picton at home.
Picton won two rinks and Bowral won one rink. Picton finished with 61 shots and nine points to Bowral’s 55 shots and one point.
Kel Limbrick, Graham Hunt, Bill Meredith and Gordon Lewis defeated Picton 21-16. Bowral got hold of the game early and after six ends led 10-0.
Bowral was ahead 17-5 after 14 ends and on the next end Picton picked up six shots to trail 17-11.
Bowral won most of the remaining ends to win by five shots.
Glen Giese, Owen Williams, Mick Flynn and Dan Ticehurst lost 24-17.
This was a keen contest with Picton leading 13-8 at the halfway mark.
Bowral hit the front on the 14th end 15-13. The scores were level 17-17 after 18 ends. Picton won the last three ends to run out and win by seven shots.
Oscar Whalan, Don Chapman, Brian Porter and Bob Edwards lost 21-17.
Picton made a imposing start and held an 8-1 lead after six ends.
Bowral started to get in the game and after 14 ends were on level terms 12-12.
In a incredible turn around Bowral held the lead 17-13 with two ends to play.
But as a result of great play by Picton, they picked up six shots on the 20th end and two shots on the last end to run out winners by four shots .
Bowral played Bargo in a pennant match on Sunday that was washed out the previous Saturday with Bowral coming out the winners.
Bargo won two rinks Bowral won one rink.
Bowral finished with 59 shots and eight points to Bargo’s 55 shots and two points.
Kel Limbrick, Graham Hunt, Bill Meredith and Gordon Lewis defeated Bargo 24-14.
Bowral after four ends had jumped to a 9-0 lead. At the halfway mark Bowral held a 14-6 lead.
There was to be no heroics from Bargo and Bowral went on to win the match by 10 shots.
Ken Looke, Glen Giese, Oscar Whalan and Don chapman lost 19-16.
Bowral through good bowls deserved to be in front after 11 ends 12-7.
Bargo started to hit their straps and after 15 ends the game was in the balance at 13-13.
With two ends to play the result was in the balance with Bowral holding onto a 16-15 lead.
Bowral was unable to win the last two ends and Bargo came away with a three shot win.
Joel Hunt, Owen Williams, Clive Neutze and Mick Flynn lost 22-19.
Bowral tested out Bargo early and led 10-2 after seven ends .
Bargo was unlucky in several of the shots played but on the 16th end Bargo scored four shots to take the lead for the first time in the match 17-15.
Bowral went agonisingly close with several shots on the last few ends. But it was Bargo who was able to finish the game off and win by three shots.
This weekend the last round of pennants will be played for grades six and seven.
At Bowral, Camden will be the visitors in grade six while in grade seven Bowral will play Camden at Camden.
