The Bowral resident started volunteering in community health before moving on to Bowral abd District Hospital, where she has worked across a range of roles, including her current role as a community representative for the Southern Highlands.
“I was on the hospital auxiliary as treasurer and it’s grown from there,” she said.
“Many, many years ago I had my mother in a nursing home at a young age and I used to sit with her and watch the staff caring for those patients.
“From there on I gradually became involved with Bowral and District Hospital and I started looking at the staff and looking at the patients and I could see needs and that’s why I’ve kept volunteering – to help meet those needs.”
Mrs Liebmann said she worked regularly with pre-operative patients, making sure they had all their pre-operative tests and making sure they felt calm and comfortable throughout the process.
She said she had also found being involved in the consultation process for the $50 million redevelopment of the hospital very interesting and important.
General manager Joel Bardsley said the hard work the volunteers put in was very highly valued among both staff and patients.
“Our volunteers are passionate about making sure Bowral & District Hospital is a warm and inviting place,” he said.
“They work so hard right across the hospital: from giving directions to patients and staff and making sure patients feel prepared before surgery, our volunteers are always ready with a friendly face.
“We are proud to have such a dedicated group of volunteers in our hospital and we relish the opportunity to celebrate their contribution this National Volunteers Week.”
