Nine Highlanders will step out of their comfort zones on May 18 to dance their way towards a cancer cure.

The 2018 Stars of the Highlands Dance for Cancer has raised more than $34,000 for Cancer Council so far, with Joh Bailey taking the lead with more than $12,000 in donations.
Funds raised will provide support for people in the community affected by cancer.
Just like the television show, Dancing With The Stars, the nine Highlanders were partnered with a dance instructor to compete for the judges’ and audiences’ votes.
The first star to step on stage will be Frank Kirkpatrick from Simply Strata who is participating for both himself and his friends. Having had melanoma himself and close friends afflicted with cancer, he is enthusiastic about supporting cancer research and finding a cure.
His performance will be followed by Adam Towers from the Southern Highlands Brewing and Tap House. Adam is passionate about fundraising and excited to give dancing a go to advance people’s knowledge about the charity.
The third star will be Stacey Peters from One Agency Maday Property who said she wanted to find a cure.
“The amount of people affected around me is horrible and I don’t want my kids to have to be put through the horrible cancer journey,” she said.
James Wilson from Nine News will take to the stage after Stacey who said he was excited to combine his two favourite things of embarrassing himself and helping others.
ANZ’s Jasamine Patterson said her involvement was a personal one.
“We all know someone affected by cancer and for me that really makes it personal; to strive to push further in fundraising efforts and raising awareness,” she said.
The top fund raiser, hairstylist Joh Bailey, will be the first to showcase his dance moves after the dinner break. He is optimistic to give dancing a go for a good cause.
Following Joh will be Southern Highland News reporter Brooke Gibbs who is excited to get back on a stage while raising money for charity.
While Carol Brown from Mrs Oldbucks Pantry said she didn’t have a signature move, she was passionate about finding a cure to a disease that affects many families.
The final dancer will be Patrick Glanville from United Culture Hair Salon who is enthusiastic about increasing the impact of Cancer Council.
