Highland Hawks fight hard against Port Kembla Eagles

There was a bit of drizzle around Welby Oval on Sunday but it didn’t dampen the spirits of the young Hawks who put on a good display for their fans on Mothers Day.

All three Southern Highland Hawks teams, the under-9s, under-11s and under-13s, continued to show improvement in their matches against Port Kembla Eagles on Sunday.

And the club’s youngest members had fun learning to play the game in their Auskick match. Club co-president Matt Griffiths said all teams had played well and shows improvement on past performances this year.

“It’s all about improvement and effort that we’re focusing on at the moment,” he said.

“They’re learning to play in their positions and learning to move the ball down the ground.”

The coach’s award for Sunday’s matches went to Jack Griffiths (under-9s), Riley Raybould (under-11s) and Cameron Houghton (under-13). With plenty of parents and grandparents for the home match, Griffiths said it was a great atmosphere at the ground.
