Biota Dining was named in Gourmet Traveller’s Top 100 Restaurant Guide for the sixth year running. 

The guide's reviewers visit unannounced to suss out which restaurants are the country’s best.

A total of 409 restaurants around Australia were independently reviewed as part of the Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Guide,

Every restaurant featured in the guide should offer a winning dining experience and any that achieve a spot in the Top 100 are considered the best-rated in the country.

Biota manager Ben Shephard said he was pleased to see the restaurant back on the Top 100 for the sixth time. 

“It’s a really nice little pat on the back,” he said. 

“From the floor to the kitchen [staff] there’s a lot of dedication and passion and we wouldn’t do it if we didn’t love doing what we do.” 

Owned by James Viles, Biota is a restaurant with deep connections to the people and forests of the Southern Highlands, and with food that is all the better for it.

Mr Shephard said Biota was focusing on bringing more families to the Bowral based business, which had been a positive step for the restaurant. 

“We are a bit more family focused with the play equipment and parklands,” he said. 

“But at the end of the day it is about people eating, drinking and enjoying themselves.” 

In June, Biota wiill also host a pop-up restaurant in Chippendale. 

“It’s going to be a little more fun,” Mr Shephard said.

“There will be a set menu but it will be sort of sharing and using your hands.

“We are looking forward to it and we are already 50 per cent booked.”
