Rail commitment needed
I am in complete disagreement with Wollondilly Council’s ongoing rail advocacy program which pushes for electrification on the Southern Highland rail line with electrification to the Wilton new town centre.

Quoted in this week’s Wollondilly Advertiser: “We want electrification on the Southern Highland rail line as we have said consistently and electrification needs to occur to Wilton in stage one and then in stage two to the Illawarra.”
Neither labor nor liberal will commit to electrification of the Southern Highland rail line so electrification to Wilton is at this stage not an option.
However, with the next state election looming, if we played our cards right we could get a commitment from one or both of the major political parties and maybe some independents who may hold a balance of power or how they distribute their preferences.
A commitment would be for a new fleet of trains to replace our third world current fleet and a commitment to complete stage one of the half finished Maldon to Dombarton rail line which first started construction in 1983 and using the new replacement fleet to also service a railway station at Wilton.
I have made my position clear to the council that we need to be realistic and lobby for what our current commuter residents want now not later, which is good regular and reliable rail service on the Southern Highland rail line.

Leylandii woes
Re my letter of April 27, 2018. The letter read that Mark Sainsbury had been anti-Leylandii for years.
This is incorrect, it was meant to say that Larry Whipper was against them. My apologies to Mark.
Also on April 27, Jan Hainke wrote her usual letter citicising Leylandii. She should realise that all species rob views, so all species should be stopped.
She also keeps going on about the height they grow. It doesn’t matter what height they grow, they all cause a problem at three metres. The height is immaterial.
