Kangaroo March re-enactment organiser Angela Williamson presented Bundanoon Community Association committee member Christine Janssen with an official plaque in a special presentation.
“We wanted particularly to pay our sincere tribute and respect to the families who still had to help feed and clothe Australia,” Angela Williamson.
The plaque, which will be on display at Soldiers Memorial Hall, will be a permanent reminder of Bundanoon’s involvement in the Kangaroo March in 2015.
The presentation covered the history of the Kangaroo March as well as a performance of a song about the experience of women in World War I and the Australia and New Zealand national anthems.
Mrs Williamson said the Kangaroo March was a way to educate and engage the younger generation.
“Each march we held a half hour service to remember the local lads. Their stories were told by students on the local schools. We wanted to engage with young people about their own community history and to carry the torch,” she said.
“We wanted particularly to pay our sincere tribute and respect to the families who still had to help feed and clothe Australia.
“In particular the mums who watched their boys go with fear and trepidation.”
