But what exactly will it entail?
A council spokesman said the refurbishment, which was scheduled for the 2018/19 financial year in the draft budget would involve upgrades and modifications to the existing building.
He said the main element would be a new overarching roof across the entire building including the internal courtyard.
“This will allow space for extensions of the first floor office accommodation.”
Other works planned under the refurbishment include:
- Upgrading of the existing main switchboard and associated electrical services
- Modifications to the existing air conditioning systems
- Incorporation of a lift into the building to provide access the first floor
Councillor Duncan Gair said at the April 24 meeting where the draft budget was discussed that the Civic Centre was “long overdue for a major upgrade”.
“Hopefully roof won’t leak and the electrical system won’t fail.”
