The Spuddies reserve and third grade teams competed in round two of the Group 7 competition at Robertson Showground on April 14.
The Spuddies reserve grade team went down Kiama 24-18 in what was a tough game until the end.
The team was left challenged by the Kiama side, and their discipline was not strong enough to win this round.
It was quite a pinnacle and fast game. That’s the level we need to play at to be a threat.
- Spuddies reserve grade coach Steve Ross
Reserve grade coach Steve Ross said the team was disappointed by the loss.
“We shot ourselves in the foot. In the third half we weren’t disciplined enough,” Ross said.
“Kiama are an experienced team and they play a nice structure.
“It was quite a pinnacle and fast game. That’s the level we need to play at to be a threat.”
Callum Houston, Paul Briggs, Chris Barton and Sam Pointing proved to be stand-out players on the field.
Ross praised these players for their consistency and strong effort throughout the game.
Meanwhile the third grade side had an upsetting 36-12 loss against Wreck Bay.
Third grade coach Damien Barton said the loss came down to the Spuddies lack of defence on the day.
“The opposition started strong. They were a fast and well-drilled side,” Barton said.
“We were competitive in 15-minute patches. They’re going to be the benchmark for us this season.”
The teams will train hard for round three of the Group 7 competition.
This weekend the Spuddies will take on Shellharbour at Robertson Showground on Saturday, April 21.
The reserve grade game will kick off at 2.30pm and the third grade game will start at 1pm.
