The 36-12 win over the Picton Magpies at Victoria Park in Picton on April 15, in what was an emphatic display of rugby league from the Bowral team.
Bowral Blues captain Mark Williams stood out on the field as he received the player’s player award and the best and fairest award from match officials.
Todd Fairburn was an outstanding team player, along with flying winger Mark Pace.
Rob Carter played his first game in the Blues jersey, and proved to be a significant signing for the club with a resounding first up game.
Coach Cameron Arlington could not have been happier with the boys at this early stage of the season.
“The team culture and mateship is really falling into place,” Arlington said.
Meanwhile the Bowral Kookaburras mini teams of under 6s, under 7s and under 8s travelled to Warragamba to play last Saturday.
Each team had a great time and displayed great sportsmanship on the day.
Coaches Mick Galvin and Andrew Murdoch were very impressed with the teams.
In the under 11s competition, the Bowral Kookaburras played Warragamba at Warragamba and were beaten by only a penalty goal of two points and went down by 24-22.
Bowral were missing a few players due to holidays but played extremely well.
The Bowral Kookaburras under 12s team travelled to Warragamba to play former A grade team the Wombats.
Bowral had its work cut out for them, as it was missing five of its regular players.
Fortunately Zayne and Max from the under 11s backed up the team sensationally to give Bowral a full 13 on the paddock with no reserves on a 30-degree day.
The team played brilliantly and we only went down 12-10 in a very torrid game.
While there were many strong performances, the best on the ground was under 12s player Elijah.
Meanwhile the Bowral Kookaburras under 13s team had the bye.
Round two was fruitful for the Bowral Kookaburras under 16s girls rugby league tag team.
In what can only be described as a bingo moment, the Bowral girls recorded their inaugural win in the new league tag competition.
The under 16s defeated the Appin Dogs with a convincing score of 48 points to 6.
After going winless in last year’s initial competition, the Bowral girls knuckled down and have trained hard to achieve this win.
Going into half-time at 26 points to 6, the team never faulted.
Many league tag players stood out on the field.
Emily Sargood lead the way for younger players like Hannah Gage Simpson to shine in their respective roles.
Alliyah King Dewitt and Brianna Sawtell were great in the dummy half roles.
The two were well-supported by strong running from Tiahna Edwards and Asher Bulfin.
Coach Peter Howard said he was extremely proud of the girls in what has been a great building block for the team in the season ahead.
This Saturday the Bowral Blues will take on Oran Park in a home game at Loseby Park from 3pm.
The Bowral Kookaburras teams will have a bye due to the school holidays.
