Councillors vote to delay re-establishment of economic development and tourism committee

Since February, there has been no economic development and tourism committee for the Wingecarribee Shire.

And now those keen to re-form the committee will have to wait a little longer.

All councillors present at the April 11 meeting bar Ian Scandrett voted in favour of not proceeding with the re-establishment of the committee until after councillors have been appointed to council committee in 2018.

Cr Duncan Gair, who moved the motion, said it would give council’s economic development officer time to complete the shire’s economic development strategy.

However, former committee chairman Cr Scandrett questioned why there was no longer a sense of “urgency” to have the committee up and running again.

He was the only dissenting vote on the night.

The motion which was passed on February 28 resolved to have a newly appointed committee functional by May 2018.
