Following the release of his singles Gingerbread Man and New Day, Chalkie White will hit the ground running with his debut album, My Song Isn’t Written Yet.
White said he was thrilled to release his debut album which has been a long-time coming.
“I’ve been in the music game for 28 years now and this is my first release, so it’s very exciting,” White said.
White released the first single from the album, New Day, after his battle with cancer which reached number four on the iTunes country songs chart on release.
“It gave me the realisation that I’ve always wanted to put my music out there and I’d never had a go at it,” he said.
“We started with New Day as a single which led into this album, so we followed up with the single Gingerbread Man and now the album. It all came from that song.
White said releasing this debut was a lifetime achievement for him and was is looking forward to the new journey.
“I’ve always had the songs there, but it’s just been one of those things where life gets in the way and I was always happy out there on the road playing live music.
“I’ve done over 4,000 gigs over 28 years and live music has been the addictive drug in my life. I was always happy just doing what I did, until now.”
White is excited for his music to be heard by new ears.
“I think those who listen to the album and attend will get to know a little about me. All of the songs on the album but one, I wrote or co-wrote.
“They’re all little snippets of times in my life. There’s a lonely song, there’s a breakup song, there’s a party song. There’s all sorts of songs and it’s all me, so I hope people get to know me a little better through the music.”
White has previously lived and performed in the Highlands and is no stranger to Berrima. He said he was looking forward to catching up with old friends and having them join him on the stage.
“I got to know a lot of people in the area and some of my closest friends live there. Michelle Cashman is someone I have worked with over the years. Nick Johnson is a lifetime friend of mine. Angus Murray, I’ve watched him grow up and have known him since he was a little kid and watched him grow as a musician, and of course my daughter, Emily White, who has been taking her own path in music and trying to get it out there,” he said.
“For me, it will be a great day catching up with friends and with a full lineup of entertainment, there will be no shortage of music.
“I’m really looking forward to turning over the album for the first time live with the band, so it should be a great day.”
My Song Isn’t Written Yet will be released on Friday, April 13 and is currently available to pre-order from digital retailers and at www.chalkiewhite.net.
Guest writers on the album include Nashville songwriter Vernon Rust who co-wrote White single Gingerbread Man, and has worked with Keith Urban, Kix Brooks, and others.
White will hit the road this year to play his new tracks to as many new ears as possible, with the first stop being in Berrima.
The album launch will be held on Sunday, April 15 at 1pm, at Surveyor General Inn, 22 Old Hume Highway, Berrima.
This will be a free event, so there is no need to book or purchase a ticket.
