Students took five steers to the Sydney Royal.
It was a six month process - from getting the steers, breaking them in, bonding with them and exhibiting them in the local shows and then exhibiting at Sydney Royal.
The five steers were a Limousin from Ray Brothers, Wagga Wagga, an Angus from J & C Angus, Wildes Meadow, a Galloway from Peter Koppman, Cowra, and two Square Meaters from Weethalle Stud, Boorowa.
The steers performed well in the local shows and at their final destination at Sydney Royal. In the Hoof section Nifty the Limo and Axel the Square Meater came second in their classes.
Axel was also chosen for the Stan Hill Team.
In the Hook section, the Chevalier Show Team was awarded:
- A Bronze Medal for the Angus Cruiser, with a final point score of 86 points.
- A Bronze Medal; First in the Class; and First Place for the Virtual Taste Test in the Lightweight Class for the Square Meater Axel; with a final point score of 86.
- The team also received excellent feedback from the butchers who purchased Axel’s body.
- A Silver Medal for Nifty the Limo, with a final point score of 91.
- The other two steers had a final point score of 72 and 72.5.
- Darcy Howard won Reserve Champion School Parader.
The team also entered the Hyline Layer Comp, Steggles Meat Bird Competition and Egg Section.
Their Bantam Araucana eggs were awarded third place.
In the Steggles Meat Bird competition the Chev Team was awarded first place for the female pair, placed eighth for the male pairs and sixth for both pairs with the carcass.
The Chevalier Show Team and agriculture students are extremely proud of their achievements and all their hard work has paid off.
