More than 80 players took part in the Miranda Belshaw Foundation charity golf day at Mount Broughton Golf Club on Sunday.

The day raised about $13,000 for the foundation’s SIDS sleep apnea lab at the University of Sydney.

This funding is significant as the lab receives no funding from the government and relies on funding from charity groups such as the Miranda Belshaw Foundation.

Event organiser and Miranda Belshaw Foundation co-director Cam Cowen said the community contributed more prizes than ever before.

“The biggest support we had from the community was prizes. That’s the key for us,” Cowen said.

“We had 30 individual businesses and people contribute.”

After the golf day, Dr Rita Machaalani spoke to the golfers about the importance of their continued support, which enabled further research into SIDS.

Cowen said golfers were happy to contribute to the cause. “It does make you feel good knowing it’s a good thing to support,” he said.

“We want to thank the local community for supporting us. They’re so generous and it helps Rita and her team.”
