The 16-year-old field hockey player has been selected to represent NSW in Tasmania later this month.

Connor had a trial for Illawarra under 18’s which led him to Newcastle’s state championships playing against teams from all across NSW. 

He was then chosen for a 60-man squad by Athlete’s Acceleration Program. 

Connor has since trained against the other 59 teenagers who were selected where he did fitness and speed tests. 

The best 18 players from the training sessions were selected to go to Tasmania.

“I was lucky enough to be one of the 18. I will be playing against every different state. There’s usually about 12 different teams because there’s development teams, so NSW have a development team [as well as] Queensland and Victoria for the kids who aren’t up to scratch yet, to get them a feel for it.” Connor said.

“I think if you play good enough, there’s a thing called Futures. I’m not quite sure about it but. They just pick the best, a few. Not many people make that.”

“I’ve been doing a lot of training. That’s what I’m known for – hard work. Most afternoons I go for a run.”

Conner will be playing in Launeston, Tasmania from March 11 to March 23.
