Did you know that there was a Southern Highlands Regional Gallery operating from the mid-‘90s for over a decade? When their physical gallery space in Moss Vale was closed down they moved into offices in Bowral and continued their work of building a collection and raising money for a new, dedicated space. With ambitious plans for the future and a long heritage of championing regional arts they have an AGM coming up. If you would like to be part of the future of the arts, screen and culture scene in the Southern Highlands and feel you could contribute, you can contact the committee through my details below.
Have you ever noticed at an exhibition opening they always serve wine? In my mind there is a perfect symbiotic relationship. The wine tastes better when looking at art and the art looks better when drinking... you get the idea. The local wines from our region are brilliant. The 2016 vintage was one of the best on record with 2017 being an almost universal wash out. The 2018 vintage is just about ready for harvest and all across the district nervous winemakers are checking the weather maps and testing the baume of the grapes to nail down the exact day to harvest. If you have ever wanted to see what a harvest is like, one of the regions best Pinot Gris producers is harvesting this Saturday, February 24, in Canyonleigh and is looking for volunteers to hand pick for a few hours followed by lunch among the vines. There are also a slew of amazing exhibitions currently running or about to open at Bowral Art Gallery, the Milk Factory Gallery and Retford Park. You can learn to paint and draw at one of the regions most breathtaking studios, Cloud Farm in Robertson and groove to some seriously good live music at another amazing property, Wombat Hollow.
