Superintendent Schilt, who officially started on Monday, will oversee the Hume and parts of Young – now known as the Hume Police District.
“I’ve got a very large district to cover but I plan to spend a lot of time up here in the Southern Highlands,” he said.
“Saying that I’ve been very welcomed here by the officers and by people saying hello on the street.”
As part of the re-engineering rollout, every station will now have an officer in charge (OIC) and Inspector John Klepczarek will oversee operations in Bowral.
“It’ll be a bit of a challenge managing my time but I’ve got some great staff with our officer in charge John Klepczarek,” Superintendent Schilt said.
“With the support of our district inspectors I’m in pretty good hands.”
Superintendent Schilt he was starting his role in what is an exciting time for the region.
“We’ve got the police station scheduled to open in the coming months and I thinkw e are all very much looking forward to that,” he said.
Superintendent Schilt has worked in Botany Bay, Cootamundra, Burwood, Port Stephens and the Counter Terrorism Command.
President of the NSW Police boxing club, the father-of-four has pledged a greater focus on youth issues throughout the district.
