The slab was officially poured on Monday, January 29, marking the near completion of the first stage of the build.
Robertson and District Swimming Pool Association (RADSPA) president Don Ferguson said it was a very exciting time for the community.
“I’ve been involved [with Robertson and District Swimming Pool Association] for 10 years and we are so happy to finally see this,” he said.
In the past weeks retaining walls have been put in and the building footings have been put in place.
Stage one began in early December, much to the pleasure of the Robertson community, who have been pushing for the build for more than 35 years.
The 40m x 17.5m rural building will house the 25 metre, four-lane above-ground heated swimming pool and gymnasium.
Funding for the project has included $220,000 raise by the community plus a NSW ClubGrants of $350,000, National Stronger Regional Fund dollar/dollar Grant of $542,000 and a Veolia Mulwaree Trust grant for $32,400.
Mr Ferguson said stage one was due to be completed in about two weeks.
“Then we will start the assembly and erection of the shed which is the agricultural building where the pool will go,” he said.
“We bought the shed earlier last year and we’ve had it on site ready to go.”
While the centre is expected to be completed by June 30, Mr Ferguson said the weather was causing the committee and builders a spot of worry.
“We haven’t really had any rain and you know what that means in Robertson- if it starts it probably won;t stop and things might get a bit held up,” he said.
But besides that, Mr Ferguson said things were going swimmingly.
“Things are going well and everyone one is very excited,” he said.
This centre will contain a gymnasium and exercise equipment including disability access provisions, solar panels, water tanks, BBQ facilities and a gallery with seating for more than 30 visitors and spectators.
In addition to Learn to Swim campaigns, lap swimmers, coaching, training and hydrotherapy, the centre will house the Robertson's only gymnasium for locals, sporting groups and the elderly and disabled.
