Local Leaders | Wollondilly CWA: CWA take a look at Poland for 2018

The six CWA branches of the Southern Highlands (Bundanoon, Bowral, Exeter, Mittagong, Moss Vale, and Southern Highlands Evening) are ready for the year ahead. Both the CWA state and Wollondilly Group calendars are now set and each branch will be holding its planning meeting this month to decide which activities, of the very many opportunities, they will undertake in 2018.

The first event on the state calendar is the international seminar on the country of study for 2018 – Poland. This one day seminar is open to all members, and is a highlight of the year. It will be held in Canberra on Saturday, February 10. This entire day is attended by embassy staff and guest speakers, who present the sessions on all aspects of current life in the country, including the difficult aspects that the country is facing. Static displays and usually some form of entertainment are also of great interest. Special guest this year will be Mrs Ruth Shanks AM, the World President of ACWW (Associated Country Women of the World). In recent years CWA members have studied Nepal, Mongolia, Italy, Morocco and Timor-Leste.

During this year, branches will incorporate some aspects of the Polish culture into their own programs.

Invitations will be sent to the local primary schools, to be part of our country of study year. This may be participation in the CWA PowerPoint competition, displays at the school, shared guest speakers, craft demonstrations and cuisine tastings.

Some branches give a donation to the school library of books including those pertaining to this country during the year.

The Polish Nasz Stolik cafe/deli in Mittagong can expect to have a number of CWA patrons this year!
