Highlands Matters has been vocal in its concerns about the proposed upgrade.
These concerns include the loss of significant trees and camellias along Station Street and parking spaces being transferred from Station Street to Kirkham Road.
Members of the action group are also worried the proposed upgrade would have a negative impact on the transport interchange.
The petition asks the state governments to “quarantine the grant funds for a true bypass project that will reduce traffic congestion more effectively, retain the unique avenue of trees at the northern entrance, maintain safe and secure parking and is environmentally acceptable”.
Highlands Matters members will be at Highlands Marketplace this Saturday (December 16) with the petition.
The petition will be sent to Premier Gladys Berejiklian as well as Wingecarribee Shire mayor Ken Halstead and council general manager Ann Prendergast.
