It represents not just Berrima of course - the proposed site of the Hume Coal mega mine - but the entire Southern Highlands.
In fact, it seems since Sydney’s drinking water from the Warragamba dam is fed in part from the Wingecarribee River (which is already suffering pollution from the flooded Boral mine), that the issue is a much wider one.
It’s even a federal issue, as research pointed out to me recently by a colleague indicates that POSCO Corporation, the world’s fourth largest steel manufacturer, and owner of the Hume Coal Project, has a major financial stake hold in a northern sea port and trade route in North Korea also shared by Russia, China, and South Korea.
This information is in the public domain, please check the Rajin- Khasan Trade Link Zone with Mrs Google.
Should the Hume Coal Project go ahead, POSCO will probably be supplying Southern Highlands coal to North Korea.
This places Australia, as seller of that source, in direct contravention of our role as a compliant UN partner with regard to economic sanctions against North Korea.
The current petition requests a parliamentary inquiry, a moratorium, and an audit, into risks posed to the Highlands, and to Sydney’s water catchment, from coal mining within this shire.
Do you want air, noise and water pollution from coal dust, coal transport trains, and toxic coal slurry washing into our main river?
Can you stand by and have our coal firing the production of North Korea’s nuclear missiles?
Southern Highlanders and Sydneysiders, please sign this petition, available online (www.battleforberrima.com.au), at several local businesses and at Corbett Plaza Bowral on Saturdays.

Thank you SES
I would like to thank the Wingecarribee SES for the wonderful job they did on my massive tree which blew down in my front garden on Saturday.
They worked long hours and did an amazing job.
I’m so appreciative. Thank you all.
