Police from The Hume Local Area Command have been told the girls, one aged 12 and two aged 15, were walking west along the Old Hume Highway, Mittagong, at about 5.10pm when they heard a man yelling at them.
The man beckoned the girls closer then committed an indecent act in front of them.
When one of the girls attempted to take his photo the man ran from the scene up Albert Lane.
It’s believed the same man was seen a few seconds later driving a small silver-coloured four-door sedan.
Police were alerted and searched the area without success.
A description of a man police believe can assist with their inquiries has been released.
The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged 50 to 60, with a tanned complexion and a large/obese build. At the time he was wearing a yellow shirt, black board shorts, a black beanie and thongs.
Investigators are now appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident, or has information about the man, to contact Bowral Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/
