On November 10, the school held a special Remembrance Day ceremony to mark 99 years since the end of World War I and to honour the memory of those Australians lost to the violence of war.
The school choir sang the battle song of the Third Light Horse Brigade to commemorate the occasion, and school captain Sam Johnston read the John McCrae poem, ‘In Flanders Fields’.
Neil Hughes from the Light Horse Association attended with his horse, Bubba, and spoke about the upcoming 100th anniversary of the Charge at Beersheba by the Australian Light Brigade.
As part of the commemoration, the school also participated in a special ‘soil collection’ project, whereby soil samples from participating schools are sent to the ANZAC Memorial in Sydney’s Hyde Park.
Guests including federal MP Stephen Jones, reverend Graham Thomas from St John’s Anglican Church Robertson, and past parents and students each shoveled some soil during the ceremony to be sent off as part of the project.
