The Vinnies Mittagong Shop re-opened on Monday, October 23 after a 10-week closure for refurbishment.
The new shop has undergone an impressive makeover, with an easy-to-navigate layout, fresh new look, and a great range of new and pre-loved clothing, household items, furniture, bric-a-brac and lots more.
To celebrate the new-look shop, Vinnies Mittagong was publicly blessed by Father Sean Cullen on Thursday, November 9.
Vinnies Wollongong Central Council President Gaynor Mason said the plans for refurbishment had been in the pipeline for two years.
“We had outgrown the limited space due to the increasing high-quality and quantity of donations, so we found a warehouse to store our contents and give us the opportunity to revamp the Mittagong shop,” he said.
“We have completely changed the floor plan, opening the shop right up, to offer more retail space and give our customers a light and airy shopping experience. Vinnies Mittagong has been a destination on the op shop trail for many who visit the Highlands as well as our valued local customers.”
The Vinnies Conference Office, located next door, also had a facelift.
“Because of the assistance given out through this office, it was important it remained open and operational during the refurbishment, just at a different location,” Mr Mason said.
Vinnies NSW CEO, Jack de Groot said the revenue from sales in Vinnies shops like Mittagong went towards people experiencing homelessness, families who are struggling to keep up with the rising rent and electricity prices, people unable to afford to put food on the table, and many other forms of disadvantage locals may be experiencing.
“In the last financial year alone, Vinnies shops across the Wollongong Central Council area generated over $5.3 million to assist our important work – all thanks to the purchases made by the supportive local community,” he said.
“Vinnies shops are also manned and run by teams of committed volunteers and staff who all play a part in assisting those in need.”
