Last year’s CIC three-star winner at the NSW Baxter Boots Lynton Horse trials Hazel Shannon on Clifford has done it again. After dropping just 45.10 points in dressage, finishing first in the cross country and achieving a clear round in the showjumping the combination has walked away with the major prize from the three day event in Goulburn.

Organiser Georgina Kennedy said the Goulburn Horse trials have been operating as an annual event for almost 30 years and this year they attracted over 300 entries.
“Ann Poidevin’s neighbouring property ‘Braemar’ becomes home to the horses, floats and some of the accompanying people over the weekend,” Mrs Kennedy said. “ We are really grateful that she is so accommodating, the paddock is not the same after the event. Some of the riders and support staff came from South Australia, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia.
Some of the competitors have been Australian representatives or representatives of overseas countries at international championships. Many ride several horses in different classes with the aim of preparing them for higher level competition. There were several international competitors, who have based themselves here to prepare horses for the Tokyo Olympics, among them Usman Khan who is hopeful of representing Pakistan.
“This year the event attracted over 1000 visitors during the three days,” Mrs Kennedy said.
“There were about 150 volunteers helping throughout the weekend, many were local, while others came from the Highlands and ACT.”
