But don’t worry, it’s for a good cause.
The first PCYC Southern Highlands lock-up fundraiser will be held on October 28.
The fundraiser, titled Time 4 Kids, will involve locking up local members of the community into a mock jail and having them raise their bail to get out.
The ‘prisoners’ will be held in a cell at the Mittagong Marketplace from morning until about 8pm at night and will be monitored by members of the NSW Police Force.
Deputy Mayor Ian Scandrett and councillor Larry Whipper have already registered to act as prisoners on the day.
The jail will be open to members of the public who wish to go inside on the day as well.
The cell was made by members of the Bowral Men’s Shed.
PCYC Southern Highlands club manager Krischan Keller said he was thankful for the community support already.
“We have to say a huge thanks to the Men's Shed because they did a really good job with the cell,” he said.
“This is the first time the fundraiser has been held in the Southern Highlands area and it’s a fun and interactive way for people to help a good cause.”
The money raised will go to support PCYC Southern Highlands effort to stop youth crime and to help get children active within the community.
PCYC clubs across Australia have embraced the concept where members of the community “do time” in a mock cell to raise funds for youth crime prevention programs.
Time4Kids is an initiative of PCYC NSW, a unique partnership between the community and the NSW Police Force youth command.
In more than 60 clubs throughout NSW, youth case managers work with young offenders and “at risk” youth.
Staff, volunteers, coaches and mentors work with these young people to get them active in life, develop their skills, character and leadership and reduce and prevent crime by, and against, young people.
