Members of the community remain concerned about the impact the upgrade could have on businesses during construction, with a timeline yet to be determined.

Barry Anstee, who attended the public meeting about the upgrade held on September 20, believes there needs to be another meeting for business people.

“Theoretically there needs to be a business input into it,” he said.

“I think the council should be putting on a night solely for business owners and property owners and let’s see what comes out of it.”

One of the issues raised by one man at the September 20 meeting was the impact on businesses who only access was from Station Street.

Mr Anstee agreed this was something that council would need to address.

The other concern Mr Anstee has regarding the proposal is parking.

He said many businesses in Bowral were already struggling to expand as they could not provide extra parking.

While council recently purchased land in Wattle Lane, which will provide about 42 extra parking spaces, Mr Anstee said more parking was needed at the northern end of Bowral.

He believes the existing parking area at the north entrance to Bowral, opposite Memorial Park could still serve the same purpose under the upgrade.

Council owns two lots of land adjacent to the train station.

Mr Anstee said an undercroft carpark would be a good solution and use of the land.

He has looked at the site and believed there would be room for about 200 car spaces.

“If we could get a provision for 200 cars for land they already own by construction it’s better located than down the back there [Wattle Lane],” he said.

Mr Anstee said “eliminating” a multi-million asset would not be good for the community.

“We are becoming a weekend destination and car parking [has been] demonstrated to be a problem.”
