Last week we conducted Operation Compliance, targeting poor driver behaviour. For the most part, the majority of motorists observed were doing the right thing and contributing to safer roads. A few tickets were issues for mobile phones, speeding and seat belt offences. 

I urge all drivers to please take care on our roads. This is a collective responsibility, and we see far too much death, injury and carnage.   

The Get Ready for Bushfire Challenge starts next week. Across the Southern Tablelands and Southern Highlands we have had low rainfall over the winter months. That increases the risk as we enter the fire season. 

I encourage everyone in our communities to turn their attention to bushfire awareness. Please take the time to not only think about how you can minimise your chances of your home and properties becoming vulnerable to bushfires, but to discuss this with your families, friends and work colleagues. 

A highly recommended resource is the Wingecarribee Shire Council Get Ready Challenge website which can be located on www.getreadychallenge.com.au. When you sign up you will be sent weekly challenges over the six week period that will help you and your loved ones better prepare for the fire season. This preparedness can be applied equally to fire, flood, storm and tempest. 

Please assist our colleagues in the Rural Fire Service by reporting any fires or smoke as soon as possible and be conscious to include precise locations. Don't just assume that someone else will call emergency services.
