Benson targets archery success

Diann Benson is proof that hard work, persistence and focus well and truly pays off.

Benson is the Berrima District Sport Awards senior June monthly award winner.

During June, Diann competed at the International Field Archery Association (IFFA) Championships in Mudgee.

The three day event held over the long weekend incorporated shooting distances out to 80 yards.

Competing in the Ladies Freestyle Unlimited A Class, Diann came first in the field round and second in the hunter round. On the final day, she placed first in the animal round shooting a score of 552 out of 560.

To top off a successful weekend, Diann’s combined score of 1550 secured her the title of Australian Champion.

In April this year, Benson made it to the international stage at the World Masters Games in Auckland, New Zealand.

Benson won silver in three competition events, World Field, 1FFA field and Target Match play. More than 230 participants competed in the archery tournament with competitors divided in to the age groups of ten years.

Diann is currently training with her husband Grahame for their next event, which is the World IFAA Championships to be held in Wagga Wagga at the end of September.
