Frensham’s Arabella McKenzie, 18, was selected to compete in the Women’s Under-18 Rugby 7s side after showcasing her impressive skills in two women’s rugby training camps earlier this year.
“I had always hoped that the Commonwealth Games were a possibility for me and I’m so excited to be selected,” she said.
The student has spent months preparing for the Games, training with her physical performance coach three times a week and travelling to Sydney once a week to train with the NSW-based members of the Commonwealth squad.
McKenzie and the team will compete against Fiji, Wales and Trinidad and Tobago in the three day tournament, looking to defend their predecessor’s Gold Medal from the event held in Samoa in 2015. The Bahamas edition is the sixth and largest Youth Commonwealth Games, bringing together over a thousand competitors between the ages of 14-18.
