There was jazz, ballroom, line dancing, broadway, flamenco, disco and tap – but there could be only one winner.
See Saw Promotions’ Thomas Farquhar and Fierce Dance Academy’s Marie Fisher took out the Judge’s Choice Award with their boppin’ hip hop routine at the Stars of Southern Highlands Dance for Cancer night.
The pair had four weeks to prepare, as Thomas had dislocated his knee just prior to signing up to the event.
“Marie is a great teacher, getting me to this level,” he said.
Three other prizes were also awarded on the night.
Duncan Hill Property’s principal Duncan Hill took out both the People’s Choice Award for his flamenco routine with Marisol Santos, and Highest Fundraiser with $3,239.25.
“The red wine may have had me buzzing, along with the nerves, but I had a great time,” he said.
The Best Dressed Award went to the BATH’s Gail Withers for her ABBA-inspired costume and disco dance with Point Dynamic Arts' Bonnie Curtis.
More than $38,000 was raised by the stars and by guests throughout the evening.
The money has been used to buy a car for the Southern Highlands GAPS program, so volunteers can drive those who need cancer treatment to hospital.
Dance for Cancer organiser Kelly Dinnerville said the event was an example of charity and community coming together. “This has made a huge difference for those fighting cancer in the Highlands,” she said.
The money leftover from the car purchase will go to the Cancer Council NSW to fund cancer research and support.
